I Wish This Were Mine… & Shitake Monkey’s
Okay, so you may find this hard to believe but, to my recollection, I don’t think I’ve ever experience “haterism”. And that’s “haterism” coming from me which is not to be confused with “haterism” directed towards me. Well, let me correct myself & say: I haven’t “hated on” anything until now.
*Note – I guess I could have just hit the back/delete button instead of pointing out I was correcting myself but then it would have lost dramatic effect.
My manager/best friend Daniel (whom you all may hear quite a lot about in my posts to come) emails me a Vimeo link & wrote “reminds me of shitake” in the subject heading. I believe I was either working on some music or running after my daughters because I didn’t open this email until days later.
Now for those who are unaware, Shitake Monkey are a really dope group whom I featured on my album. They’re on the next single entitled “The Friends Zone” which they initially wrote & co-produced. A year later I wound up co-writing (just changed a few words) & took a stab @ singing the lead vocals myself upon Kanye’s request/suggestion. Hey, who knew? *shrugs* Surely not I. A little more about the ‘Monks in another post though. Promise!
*Fun Fact #1 – Shitake Monkey (less Johnny Rodeo – *sobs*) & I will be shooting the first video for my album this coming Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 in NY. (Johnny oh Johnny, Wherefore will art thou be on the day of Woden?)
Getting back to this email, before I could click on the link, Daniel tells me that this group reminded him of Shitake Monkey & that I’d like this video. Man… “Like” was seriously an understatement. I saw this video & replayed it @ least ½ a dozen times. Literally! I could not stop watching it. Daniel further hit the nail on the head when he said they’re similiar to the ‘Monks (as I jokingly like to refer to them). *ha*
The group in question here: Metronomy. I don’t know too much about this electronic trio from the UK (I’m guessing), other than they made a bananas video & the song smashes. I’m planning on looking them up very soon. I just visited iTunes while I was typing this post & much to my delight, they currently released a new album. I remember checking for this video (which I just purchased from iTunes by the way) & an album which this video is attached to but there weren’t any @ the time; Just previously released albums dating a few years back. I skimmed through them but they didn’t quite catch my ear. Maybe I need another listen. On the OTHER hand, I just skimmed thru this new album & 4 songs in, it sounds like a Sunday February 1, 2009 purchase to me.
I won’t ruin this video by telling you about it before you get to press ‘play’ but I will say the concept is so simple that it’s genius. Also, well executed in my opinion. Also, I’m HATIN’ on this video whilst I love it because this video is neither mine nor Shitake Monkey’s. This is right up their alley in my opinion. Style. Personality. Musically. The total package. (See how my intro paragraph ties into this post’s heading & how it relates to this entire post now?) *ha* No tangets over here. Keep it movin’! The overall feel sort of reminds me of The Royal Tenenbaums. Quite honestly, “A Thing For You” is the reason I wanted to start blogging in the first place. For any ‘n’ all those who may have missed it, I’d like to be yet another conduit to something dope. Who CARES if I need to get a late pass for this. If you’re about to press play then my job here is done.
*Fun Fact #2: My daughter Luca Delaney gets totally captivated by this video when she watches or hears it. This is her new lullaby. I could actually calm her down when I sing the chorus myself. *ha*
Well I hope you all enjoy this video as much as I did do. I dare any of you to only watch once. *ha*
Again, this the song from this video is from Metronomy’s album Nights Out.
I trust you will all do what’s good & cop this. Peace!
Post Script: “Hate” is such a strong word. Let’s try & refrain from feeling it. “Spread Love. Da dahhh dah” – DJ Red Alert w/Take 6 -
Shouts:
- Shitake Monkey (for helping me make “The Friends Zone” & other dope material to come. *hint*)
- Yoram Benz (for helping bring my vision to life on 2-4-09)
- Needlz (for the disgusting remix)
- Technology (more notably synthesizer keyboards & computers for having Metronomy use you & not care)
- Metronomy (for helping to entrance my daughter by way of melodic hypnosis)
- The Mega Force (for directing this video & another SUPER dope video which I will post another time)

This song is off the meat rack, the video is out of control dope and creative. Since Keys put me on I’ve shown about 7 different people this and 3 or 4 other videos by Megaforce. How do they do that?? More importantly, how much for them to do my video?!?!?!
This is a friend-which is a big fan of electro- who told me about this band. But I just liked three songs of the album:”A Thing for Me”,”Back on the Motorway” and “On dancefloors”.I didn’t watch the video before..simple but great idea! Thanks for sharing!
