Beat CD: Eat Good… Sh*t Good!

When I run into old friends in the business or meet new people in the business who are actually familiar with my work in the past, I get a lot of, “Yooo… The Death of Adam was hot kiiid! Listen, I know you got mad beats in the stash son. Send me some beats. I’m about to start working on my new project.” Much to their surprise, I don’t.

I do not have a whole lot of crazy beats ‘in the stash’. I put everything into The Death of Adam. My mixtape, I pretty much was just riding the waves of what I’ve taught myself musically about making beats & (coupled with the fact that my ‘ear’ changes every few months) knocked those beats out pretty quick. The chops on both my album & mixtape were pretty serious. I’m most proud of “Deal Breakers” which featured my good friend BROTHER Mr. Bentley (Fonzworth if you’re cool w/him). Now, I’m not going to say that I don’t love making beats anymore but I’ve decided that to not let people hear anything less than my A game from now on. Although the wait hurts, the end results are what’s more important to me. I’m setting out to make what I personally consider to be undeniably dope music. I’m well aware of the fact that music is highly opinionated so not everybody’s going to love what I come up with but I feel that if I, myself, actually love what I’ve made, then there has to be a mass majority of people who’s going to, at the very least, like it a lot. I’m basing all of this off of past experiences/encounters over the years with people: fans, friends & complete strangers alike, giving me high praises for production work which I’ve done that I thought was pretty weak.

I’m also well aware of the fact that competition’s fierce nowadays & there are a LOT of [hip hop] producers bangin’ sh*t out & turning out beats by the dozens in the matter of a couple of days. Unfortunately, I regret to say, I am not one of them. At least not just yet. I have my moments where I could bang out something decent in the matter of minutes (i.e. the majority of production on Adam’s Case Files, this beat I’m featuring in this post + others) but it doesn’t happen that quick on a daily basis. I now have other things going on in my life which occupy a lot of my time which I am truly grateful for & thank God everyday: my BEAUTIFUL queen Krista & my two lil’ Polo princesses (Chloë Yoshe & Luca Delaney). So, again, “No. I do not have beats in the stash.” Also I’d like to point out to unsigned artists who always like to mention this when asking me to do production for them: “Yo, even if they’re just your ‘throw-away’ beats, you should let me spit on them.” Nah doggy-bag. I don’t have “throw-away” beats because they get just that: Thrown… Away!

Anyway, here’s a snippet of one of the beats which I plan on including in my upcoming beat CD. Not certain how many beats I’ll include on this CD but rest assure they will all be fire & of various sorts of music. But you could categorize them all under the genre: Dope. I call this one “pictures from the past.”

I never capitalize any letters in my beat titles because the crazy part of me feels less deserving of caps unless the beat gets placed (a.k.a. sold). This is just one of many weird lil’ quirks I have. You could file this quirk under: Music Production. I have a LOT of them. Trust! (i.e. I’ll never sample from a CD or any song past the mid-80′s… etc.). This beat is still in ‘prototype’ mode. Hopefully someone would want to cop this so you could hear this in all it’s glory; With all of the bells ‘n’ whistles I plan on adding to this & a dope mix from ‘my engineer’ Irko The Audio Nutritionist (more on him later).

Right now I’m just trying to get thru some major equipment issues I’ve been having for the past few months now. One issue has already been resolved & the other issue is still looming. The wackness yo! Seriously. :( I’m pretty confident that all will be worked out in just a matter of time so I’m trying not to stress out about it really. I’ve been held back by it but that’s to be discussed in another post. Stay tuned!

I hope you all enjoy this beat. You’re getting the ‘sneak preview’ early. Please chime in & let me know if you like it or not. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

So be on the look out for my first beat CD in about 3 years+ or so entitled Eat Good… Sh*t Good! Coming [definitely] soon [let's hope]!

Shouts:

  • Irko for nurturing my audio. You brought The Death of Adam to a whole new level of dopeness dude. Thanks for that. Good things coming. Trust!
  • Tats @ Sterling Sound Mastering a.k.a. the original 4th member of Shitake Monkey (ha haaa – bet y’all didn’t know that). Thanks for doing an exceptional job mastering my album & increasing the knock factor of The Death of Adam. Both Adam & myself truly appreciate your work.
  • The Fonz for coming thru to my apt. & putting in work ’til we got “Deal Breakers” right. I’m telling you dude… You’re going to win heavy with ‘the ascot flow’. Oh & I got you on these files man. As you can see in this post I’m STILL having equipment problems so you know I ain’t bullsh*ttin’ you.
  • Electric Pete of Shitake Monkey. Thanks for strongly suggesting/highly recommending Irko. I was pretty skeptical having an engineer all the way on the other side of the world touch my album.

Post Script: “pictures from the past” was recorded straight out of the MP’ for all to bang. No mixing… No eq’s… No NADA! Just that raw sh*t. Enjoy! Oh & by the way, to listen to the beat, click on the boldface beat title. Thanks… GENIUS! *womp womp* :P

  1. PLEASE inform when you are about to put this out. I need to hear how other beat CDs are done that are NOT Donuts and Petestrumentals so I can finish mine’s.

    Peace!

    • Sorry homey but the only way I intend for EGSG to be heard by the masses is when it’s sold, mixed & mastered by an artist or group. This best tape is strictly meant for the ears of artists with budgets & A&R reps… Only. I’ve only let a handful of friends hear it so far & got a few takers here n’ there so you might here a few joints off of here sooner than later. (i.e. “Think It Over” by Bilal).

      • Fosho. Hopefully the blog gets updated with at least snippets when those new ones.

        • It already has. I always encourage people to subscribe to my blog so nothing gets missed. There are two posts on my blog which has a couple of beats from EGSG. Looks like it maybe backtracking time for you. ;) Post comments when you find ‘em & hit those Facebook & Twitter buttons.
