Chuck’s A Mess

One of the many advantages of being married is getting turned onto new things by your spouse. Things that you may normally shun. Case in point, let’s take the new’ish show on CW11: Gossip Girl. Now, in all honesty, I still don’t watch this show. When this show airs I’m usually on my computer sitting next to my wife while she’s engaged in the show… & simultaneously playing Solitaire on her iPhone [multi-tasking].

Now the thing that kind of bugs me about this show is these mid-20′s actors trying to pass for young teenagers. For that, they should have just hired young teenagers to play the parts. I know teens nowadays are looking older & older but these “kids” look like they’re paying mortgages. Plus they’re way too mentally mature. Anyway, I guess that’s my only gripe about the show. Other than that, I choose to glance up @ it every now & then for the mere fact that Ralph Lauren styles this show. The character Chuck Bass is always dressed on point (& by “on point” I mean Ralph Lauren). RL’s vision. Cool points given!

Two Points of Post:

  1. To show you Ralph Lauren’s involvement in the show.
  2. The music.

It seems to me like the people who does the music licensing for this show have good ears. Just like the good people who handle Grey’s Anatomy. It hit me while watching last night’s episode of Gossip Girl. There was this really dope song on the show which conpletely captured my attention. So, like I did to find out about the song “Twice1, I broke out my iPhone & used my shazamShazam2 app. Nailed it! The crazy part was I caught the song on the light percussion break which barely seemed audible from where I was sitting on my living room couch but I still managed to catch it.

Well, without further ado, I present to you…

Gotye – “Heart’s A Mess

Enjoy!

Notes:

  1. In case you missed it, please refer to my I Heart My Polo Lifestyle blog post entitled: “Twice.”
  2. Be sure to click on the Shazam icon to download it to your iPhone… Just in case you’re cool like me & even have an iPhone. ;) *stunt*

Shouts:

  • Ralph Lauren. Thanks for showing Gossip Girl (or @ least Chuck Bass) ‘the way’.
  • Kris’ (my better ½). Thanks for continually trying to put me on to this show. I’ll crack eventually but @ least now I could check for the dope songs & Chuck’s RL steez. ;)

  1. I meant to say a day! ~Oops =(~

    • All good. Oh & I think the best app, or at least my favorite app at the moment, is Wikipanion Plus. Now there’s an app which I use 4-5x a day.

  2. Wow… song is crazy… I think I use Shazam like 3 or 4 times today…. I always hear something old or new I like… I think that is like the best app on the iphone that an pandora radio!

    • Yeah Shazam is dope, however, there’s a new app in the AppStore (I believe it’s called Midori or something similar to that) which pretty much does the same thing; the catch to this other app is: *drumroll please* you could HUM THE SONG & it’ll i.d. it for you. I have yet to see it in action though. I’m pretty loyal to my faithful brands. That’s why I’m still rockin’ on the MPC 3000. ;) Good ol’ “Raw Dawg” has never let me down.

  3. I twitted you from my car today, because I felt the need to thank you for putting me onto Gotye. It truly was a good way to start the day, vocals, strings, percussive rhythms, ahhhhh. At first it had this Gulliemots type feel to it but they definitely have distinct differences.

I owe you some reccommendations for all these great references you’ve shared (morning benders, tanya morgan, gotye, etc.)…email me if you are in the need some new ish.

Im about to cross “THE BRIDGE” into “BROOKLYNATI” right now as a matter of fact, haha

  4. i really dig this video too, the song kind of has that aqualung type feel too, the lovelorn atmospheric quirkiness and restraint. I am indeed digging the percussion but to me i love how they just break from a traditional verse chorus to have an extended string breakdown and the atmospherics wrap the song in a nice little cacoon. good find. also as a note, the girl who does the music for grey’s anatomy is named alex patsavas and she now has an imprint under atlantic called chop shop music, she has some dope bands on there including this one girl that my girl digs named…anya marina who is cool in her own right but her cover of tip’s whatever you like is just hot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzJKzkra3LQ

    • Man… You know EVERYTHING! Good lookin’ out Will.I.Meem. ;) I’m going to look this Alex Patsavas woman up. It would appear that she’s got good taste so it would be interesting to hear what she’s signing to her label. Interesting.

  5. I stayed with my dad last year for about 6 months, first time I lived with either parent in over 12 years(& about 16 since my dad’s) or so. Well My sister was 17 (now 18 & recently accepted to Brown) and she used to LOVE Gossip Girls. She even Tivo’d it, well one evening I watched it with her. (While it did cut into my MNF time) I did enjoy the show. Chuck Bass is a fucking STONE COLD PIMP! He is so over the top, I loved it. The show had some cute girls and I could talk to my sister about something other than school/homework/dorms etc. So it was/is a bonding experience for me & my youngest sibling.

    • Ah you actually followed thru. Nice! Thanks again & I’m sure you
      sister appreciated the sentiment.
